Every year we are taught to make resolutions to ch

Every year we are taught to make resolutions to change ourselves. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing if we are seeking growth for self improvement. A new year symbolizes a fresh start. But what I find is there are so many of us who end up feeling judged and ashamed if we don’t feel comfortable sharing our plans with others through vision board parties (we may prefer to move in silence), or if we do share our plans with others, we still find ourselves embarrassed if “life happens” and things don’t unfold as we had intended at the beginning of the year. So this time, I challenge you to make a resolution to be yourself. Sometimes being yourself is the hardest thing to do, yet it can be the most rewarding. Try not to let others make you feel inadequate for making your own conscious decisions for your life. In more simple words; do you for you. Go ahead and live your life and fulfill your dreams on your terms. Don’t let anyone bully you into the life they think you should have. 💕

Have you ever noticed that we often give the worst of ourselves to those closest to us when we’re going through hardships. Is it fair? Not at all. But it happens. Today, this is a reminder to be mindful of your actions to those people in your life that you may unintentionally be harming because you are taking out your frustrations on them. Apologize. Give them a smile. Let them know how much you love and appreciate them and be sincere about it. Have you ever heard that old saying that it takes a village to raise a child? Well, not only do I agree with that, but I personally do not believe that it ends there. Even as adults, if you have the right village surrounding you, it is one of the most precious things that can be taken for granted in a world filled with haters and backbiters. Smiling also resets your mood, so you may also be doing yourself a huge favor in more ways than one 🙂.

Okay fall, we see you. But as beautiful as you are, I know you’re setting us up. Hey summer, why do you always try to mend our broken hearts by sending fall to temporarily distract us with it’s very obvious charms, ie, pumpkin spice, landscapes that look like paintings, fall fashion, etc. We all know that winter is about to knock what little warmth you left us with straight out of our bodies. Am I the only one that dreads the season of winter?

Today is World Mental Health Day. For those of us

Today is World Mental Health Day. For those of us who have dealt with individuals in our lives who have struggled with mental health or have mental health issues ourselves, we know that it isn’t easy. Those who display erratic behavior should not be made fun of and ridiculed as crazy or criminal, just because we lack the understanding of how to interact with them. Please also be mindful that not everyone with a mental health condition shows obvious symptoms. You may be surprised at how many people you know who are mentally struggling but do not utter a word to anyone out of fear that they will be labeled as dramatic, weak, lazy, etc. We need more unashamed conversations about this, especially in Caribbean communities, so we can foster a safe environment for people dealing with this to be seen and heard. We need to encourage therapy and avoid judging those who take a day off work when they do not seem to be physically ailing from anything. It is okay to take a break in order to handle your mental health. Some people are able to hide what afflicts them and more often than not, you only find out after the worse has happened (suicide). So today, let’s take some time to examine ourselves and the part we can do to help another person’s life be a bit more bright. After all, you could be just the person that could help turn someone’s life around.
